April 2 2025 Medicine Wheel Learning Trip Indigenous Connections
As students walk through the Forestry Museum trail system students will engage in five stations that explore elements of the Medicine Wheel.
Station 1 is an introduction to the basic foundations of the Medicine Wheel. Stations 2 – 5 explore the Medicine Wheel components (Mental, Spiritual, Physical, Social) through independent and collaborative group activities.
Trip 2: April 2 2025
Grade 8 Socials Hathorn - - Students 23 + 1 teacher
Pick up at RSS - 12:40PM
Drop off to BC Forestry Museum lower parking lot/trailhead at the Forestry Museum - estimated 1pm.
Pick up: BC Forestry Museum lower parking lot/trailhead at the Forestry Museum - 2:00PM
Drop off back to RSS - estimated 2:15PM/2:20PM
Return to class for activity wrap up.
Medicine Wheel Field Trip Wrap-Up Mini Activity
Activity Name: "Medicine Wheel Reflection & Connection"
Objective:
To help students reflect on their learning from the Medicine Wheel field trip and connect the teachings to their personal lives.
Materials Needed:
- Index cards or small pieces of paper
- Markers or pens
- Medicine Wheel diagram
Instructions:
Personal Reflection (5 min)
- Ask students to take an index card and write one key insight they gained about each of the four aspects of the Medicine Wheel (Mental, Spiritual, Physical, Social).
- Example prompts:
- What was the most interesting thing you learned?
- How can you apply one of these teachings to your own life?
- Did any station challenge your perspective? Why?
Group Sharing (5-10 min)
- Divide students into small groups (3-4 students each).
- Have them share one or two insights from their cards.
- Encourage discussion about which aspect of the Medicine Wheel resonated with them the most.
Collective Connection (5 min)
- As a class, students place their index cards around the large Medicine Wheel diagram in the section they feel best represents their insight.
- Discuss common themes that emerge and how these teachings can be used in daily life.
Wrap-Up Discussion:
- Ask students: How can we continue to integrate the Medicine Wheel’s teachings beyond this field trip?
- Reinforce that balance in Mental, Spiritual, Physical, and Social well-being is an ongoing journey.
